About Summer Learning

2026 Program Locations

  • Elementary Programs: School 9 and School 12 (these are co-located with R-Centers). Additional programs are held at School 7, School 16, School 22, and School 58.

  • Middle School Programs: There is a central city-wide program for grades 7-8 at Dr. Freddie Thomas Middle School, and the Roc City Players Theater Program for grades 4-12 at Padilla High School.

  • High School Programs: Students attend either Edison Tech High School or East High School. Monroe High School will also host programming, including support for Potential August Graduates and the Virtual Academy of Rochester.

  • Extended School Year (ESY): Elementary ESY will be at School 25 and School 45. Secondary ESY will be at Edison Tech High School.

Elementary (Grades K-6)
July 13, 2026 – August 7, 2026 (20 instructional days)
Meets for 4 hours per day.

Middle School (Grades 7-8)
July 13, 2026 – August 7, 2026 (20 instructional days)
Meets for 4 hours per day.

High School (Grades 9-12)
July 13, 2026 – August 17, 2026 (26 instructional days)
Meets for 7 hours per day.

Extended School Year (ESY - Special Education)
July 6, 2026 – August 14, 2026 (30 instructional days)
Meets for 6 hours per day.

Roc City Players Theater Program
July 13, 2026 – August 7, 2026 (20 instructional days)
Meets for 4 hours per day.

What Will Students Focus On?

  • Grades K-6: An intentional focus on literacy, numeracy, and language development.

  • Grades 7-8: Strengthening core literacy and numeracy skills to prepare students for secondary coursework.

  • Grades 9-12: Priority standards for Regents success and strategic credit recovery to keep students on track for graduation. Learning is designed to be highly engaging, balancing core skill-building with hands-on activities, project-based learning, and student choice.
     

How Are Students Selected?

  • Overall Capacity: The district projects space for about 3,600 students (3,000 in general RCSD programming and 540 in ESY).

  • K-8 Selection: Students will be recommended for foundational support based on their mid-year iReady benchmark scores.

  • High School Selection: Students will be identified for credit recovery and Regents preparation based on an analysis of their marking period course completion data.
